Cogent Bull Stud

Kilnhall Emblem 16UK-bred and proven Cogent Loader EX92 emerges with a world-beating (August 2008) debut proof being the Holstein breed’s only sire to offer production figures of +740kgs milk, +3.12UK Type Merit and +3.01 Legs and Feet.

Loader is a son of Stouder Morty and is bred from a graduate of the company’s nucleus herd programme, Cogent Tugolo Looking VG88. The bull ranks in fifth position on Holstein UK Type Merit and is the highest UK-bred and proven sire on both Locomotion and Feet and Legs scores in the top 100 listings. Loader boasts a massive +2.87 on Locomotion score and +3.01 Legs and Feet and offers +2.45 Mammary, +0.2 Lifespan and +0 Somatic Cell Count.

Loader is proving a highly popular sire with UK breeders according to Cogent’s Progeny Evaluator Simon Moseley. “Loader is a very special bull that offers high production, high type, calving-ease, health-traits and a phenomenal will to milk. His daughters are predominantly jet black with beautiful udders and first class locomotion scores. The bull is ideally suited to UK environmental conditions and delivers an all genetics package,” he said.

Huddlestone Spooky Ex90 is an outcross sire and bred from another nucleus herd bred dam, Cogent Mtoto Elaine VG89.  Spooky offers top PLI ratings of +£190; +511kgs milk, +23kgs fat and +22.6kgs protein. The bull also excels by offering positive percentages on fat (+0.05%) and protein (+0.08%) Spooky delivers solid UKTM scores of +1.3, low cell counts (-11), calving-ease (6%) and offers extra conditioning (+0.2)

Spooky is proving to be a firm favourite amongst Cogent’s customers by transmitting many of the desired traits required by modern-day dairy producers. The bull delivers high production, solid type and offers incredible PLI ratings.

Cogent-proven Dalbytop Phil EX95 continues to impress by offering high type ratings of +2.58 UKTM; +2.77 Mammary, +1.97 Legs and Feet and offers component level increases on fat (+0.19%) and protein (+0.06%) The bull excels on Locomotion score by offering +1.97 and offers a PLI of +£129. The bull already has 21 VG scored UK daughters and is descended from another all time favourite Holstein bloodline states Simon Moseley.

“Phil is a direct descendent of Startmore Chanel, the dam of Rudolph, and his pedigree combines many of the greatest bulls in the Holstein breed. The bull offers tremendous all round ratings and currently ranks in tenth position on the Holstein UK Type Merit. Loader, Spooky and Phil once again demonstrate Cogent’s commitment to offer UK breeder’s world-class genetics at value for money prices,” he concluded.

Cogent Loader – The one to watch
16th July 2008

Dtr: Catshead Bluebell 22
Cogent Loader looks like he could have it all – Type, Production, Easy Calving and great Management Traits. His black daughters look truly exceptional on farms all around the UK; he really is the one to watch at the August proof release.

Loader is a grandson of one of the foundation cows of the Cogent nucleus herd. Cogent Looking was bought as a heifer from Holland, and her full brother Looking Major has gone on to be one of the most popular longevity sires in that country and abroad. Looking Major still has a PLI of £205, Type Merit of 1.8 and Legs & Feet +2.6 combined with a fertility index of +2.3.

Cogent Looking produced almost 11,000kg at 4.1% fat and 3.5% protein as a heifer and was flushed heavily thereafter. She has bred VG daughters by Tesk Terry, Decision, Idgil and Tugolo, and it is the best of these Tugolo daughters that has bred Loader.

Dtr: Kilnhall Emblem

Cogent Tugolo Looking 2nd was always special and went on to score VG88 and produce over 14,000kg at 4.0% fat and 3.2% protein in Bev Bakers BB herd in Gwent. Like her mother she was flushed heavily and it is her progeny that make her stand out even more, she already has VG daughters by Lancelot, Freelance and Titanic with more on the way. It is the combination of type and production in these daughters that is so special; with them all producing a long way ahead of herd average in many different herds.

Combine Tugolo Looking’s breeding power with the great type and milk proof of Stouder Morty and you get the perfect package: Cogent Loader; a very impressive long and stylish jet black bull who recently classified EX92.

Available to all on the Visions programme, at an introductory price of £13.50 a straw.

2 NEW 95 POINT BULLS AT COGENT
18th June 2008

Top Cogent bulls Netherside Dynamo & Dalbytop Phil join a very small group of bulls to be classified Excellent-95, now making only 9 bulls living in the UK to have achieved that score or higher.

Scoring EX95 Dalbytop Phil joins his father Crichel Principal EX95 who has just celebrated his 13th birthday at the Cogent stud. Phil is an imposing bull that moves incredibly well, scoring EX96 for Legs and EX95 for Feet. Phil's daughters are beautifully refined cattle, with fantastic udders and locomotion like their father, making them ideal for modern dairying conditions, they also show well above average fertility so will stay in the herds for a long time.

Netherside Dynamo has always been a firm favourite amongst the stockmen in the stud, and it was no surprise to them when he also scored EX95. Dynamo has incredible body capacity with a beautiful sweep and openness of rib. Dynamo daughters have the same capacity as their father, and with this produce extremely high volumes of milk with high fat and protein percentages.

Other highlights on classification day were top PLI sires Bilsrow Jock and Cogent Desmond both scoring EX93, Overside Dictator at EX92 along with new top type prospect Cogent Loader, the exciting Red bull Baileys Red Rock scoring EX91 and top allrounders Huddlestone Spooky & Stair JB Fron at EX90 completing the group of new Excellents.

The Cogent stud is one of the highest classified in the world with one EX96, three EX95 and eight EX94 bulls scored in recent years.
