The Cogent Futures Project is a pioneering project to allow young breeders to select and market young sires which will deliver the type of cattle that they want to breed for the future.
The main objective of the project is to give young breeders the opportunity to be part of the UK’s premier bull testing programme.
It will allow a greater understanding of the demands of the dairy industry today, and in the future. In turn this will help develop skills needed for future business activities on your own farm.
AGE SPECIFICATION
Applicants must be between 16 – 26
SELECTION PROCCESS
All applicants will need to complete the application form.

Applicants will be short listed to a group of eight and the Cogent team will interview and then select the most suitable four.
The eight will be invited to Cogent for the interview and given a tour of the facilities and lunch.
SUCCESSFUL FOUR
Following the selection they will:
Spend a day a Cogent with the Sire Analyst and have the first bull selection committee meeting.
Be profiled in a press release, detailing their achievements and desires.
Help to deliver the project to breeding clubs throughout the UK.
Attend several meetings on and off farms with potential bull mothers for the project.
FUTURES SELECTED BULLS
Every year the Futures Committee will select a proportion of the sires sold through Cogent Visions.
These bulls will be branded with the Futures logo and promoted as being selected by the group.
EXCLUSIVELY YOURS
The successful four will be awarded a choice of embryos to breed the next generation of Visions Young Sires for themselves. Resulting bull calves will be sampled at Cogent and the females will remain the
property of the member.
SELECTION COMMITTEE RENEWAL
Each year two members of the committee will be replaced by two new applicants.
Therefore two of the first four candidates will be required to stand only for one year.
